In July 2000, when Dominique Nils Conseil took the helm at Aveda, he inherited the unique vision of Aveda founder, Horst Rechelbacher to care for the world we live in. Sustainability was not the buzzword it is today—and few companies described their work ethic as Aveda did, and continues to do so today: as a business ecosystem in which economic and environmental goals are synergistic.
The fact that the corporate world has now caught up with Horst’s vision is a testament to just how forward-thinking he was, and to how Dominique thoughtfully nurtured Aveda for 17 years. It is with fondness that we bid Aveda’s first president goodbye, and we take this time to reflect on his many achievements.
In his farewell video, Dominique notes that while he is leaving the company, he has no intention of leaving the Aveda movement. Under Dominique’s leadership, the movement has anticipated the needs of salon and spa professionals and their guests, while at the same time encouraging the creativity of the brand’s artists.
“Horst once said to me that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and our professionals have a talent for being able to see,” says Dominique, whose parting request to Aveda salon and spa pros is to “always be the Aveda you want to see in the world.”
